Il rosso simboleggia passione, energia e azione, spesso associato a qualità come coraggio, entusiasmo e determinazione. Comunica emozioni intense come amore, rabbia ed eccitazione ed è legato a qualità di leadership. Storicamente, l'ocra rossa, derivata dall'ossido di ferro, è stata una delle prime pigmentazioni utilizzate nell'arte preistorica, simboleggiando vitalità e potere. Attraverso antiche civiltà come Egitto, Mesopotamia e Cina, il rosso ha avuto una significativa importanza culturale e simbolica, rappresentando fertilità e vitalità. Nell'antica Grecia e a Roma, il rosso era associato a dei come Ares e Afrodite, mentre nell'Europa medievale indicava potere e status, riservato alla nobiltà e al clero. Durante il Rinascimento, i progressi nella produzione di pigmenti hanno portato a un uso diffuso in varie forme d'arte.
